This DIY Christmas decoration uses pine cones that you can find for free outside in nature or at your local arts and crafts stores.
For this glitter art project you will need:
- Mod Podge Gloss
- pine cones
- poly or craft glitter (I used poly glitter in the following colors Metallic Nutmeg and Storybrooke Brown, Holographic Midas Touch, Iridescent Glitterati Rainbow, and Cosmetic Iridescent Black Copper Mine.)
- a fine or medium paint brush
- a cup of warm water to rinse the paintbrush off
I painted the Mod Podge directly onto each pine cone.
I then pressed the glued pinecone into the glitter.
This gave a wonderful glitter look to the pine cones.
For protection against glitter flaking you can seal your glitter pine cone with Krylon Glitter Blast Clear Sealer .
You need to use the spray sealer outside or in a well-ventilated area (preferably with an air purifier going) as the fumes are noxious).
As with all spray cans, I primed the sealer by shaking then spraying the spray into a paper towel.
I sprayed each glitter pine cone completely.
Then I un-primed the spray sealer can by spraying the canister upside down into a paper towel until there was only air coming out of the can.
The pine cones are just as glittery (if not more so) and the glitter stays put.
