Is your driveway tired and old and in need of resurfacing? Well, grab some grubby clothes, buy some supplies, and pick your glitters! It is easier than you think and the results are amazing. We only wish we had done it sooner.

This technique can only be done on old asphalt. Newer asphalt should not be sealed according to the pros that know best. We mostly followed the instructions of a Youtube video that was made by a guy who knew his stuff (below). The only difference was that we went for one medium coat and used a brush for the whole surface. The brush allowed us to work the medium into the texture of the asphalt and only one coat was needed. More importantly, the one medium coat gave us a nice wet surface for the glitter to stick to.

We went with glitter from the polyester section of our site. The base was a Mixed Madness glitter called City Lights (Metallic Black mixed with Centauri Silver Holographic). We then added in Rapunzel's Dream metallic as an accent color. What we ended up with was an eye-popping driveway that you cannot take your eyes off. It looks different in the morning, noon, night, with cloud cover, and without. It looks like an outer space scene with gaseous clouds. We have people stopping by to stage pictures on it all day long.

We chose the glitters based on looks of course, but also because glitters from the Holographic and Metallic poly lines have excellent coatings and UV inhibitors. So far driving on it, and hosing it down has not been an issue. We are not sure how long it will last, but we estimate a couple of years or more at least. The best part is you can always resurface it again if you want a color change or if you have extensive fading. (update is lasted 5 years)

Already we have regrets for not using stencils and doing patterns down the driveway as well. We still have half a bucket of resurfacing material so we may go back in and do some additional designs on top of what we have at some point in the future.

We like this video and used most of his advice. We chose to do one medium coat and used a brush (no squeegee). His technique would also work (as long as there is enough wet sealer for the glitter to stick to).

We really liked this brand a lot. However, their estimates for coverage were WAY off. We needed 3 times the amount they recommended!
