Here is the second glitter Snowman project that I made for a snowy time of year.
For this glitter project, you will need:
- Styrofoam balls of at least two sizes (I chose two sizes for this snowman)
- White, clear, or other snow looking glitters (below is a list that I used)
- Various colored push pins (for the buttons) If you have small buttons those will work too (apply them with the Elmer's or Tacky glue)
- A mini fake carrot and small or mini sized hat and scarf combo (There are many different Snowman mini parts bags that you can be found at local arts and crafts stores or if you knit or crochet you can make the hat and scarf combo yourself.)
- Two twigs for arms
- Elmer's or Clear Tacky glue (I recommend the clear glues as the glitter shines more.)
- A black sharpie or large flake glitter in a black color for eyes/mouth (Jumbo or Colossal flakes work well)
Snow glitters I used for the project:
Snow White Iridescent (a craft glitter)
Arctic Frost (a poly metallic glitter)
White Lily Dream (a poly pearlescent glitter)
Perseus Flicker (poly iridescent glitters)
Atlas Dazzle 0.040 (poly iridescent glitters)
Stonehammer Glimmer (poly iridescent glitters)
Using a small plastic disposable glass, I poured the Elmer's Glue to about 3/4 full (perhaps nine tablespoons). I then added in the glitters.
My glitter mix was about seven teaspoons of the Snow White Iridescent craft glitter and 1/4 of a teaspoon each of the Poly glitters. The amount of glitter mix to make will depend on the size of the snowman you are making. My Styrofoam balls were 2" and 3".
I mixed the glitter and glue to make a wonderful glitter glue.
I then liberally painted on the glitter glue, waiting between sections and coats to make sure it looked good.
Using the black Sharpie marker, I drew on the eyes and mouth. If you wish to use the big flaked glitter use a drop of glue and place your eyes and mouth onto your snowman (check out the technique in the first snowman blog).
Using a drop of the Elmer's Glue place your nose/carrot.
When placing the carrot nose you will want to stabilize the head so that the nose is facing up until the glue has set.
You can connect your balls together with strong toothpics, but using a stiff wire is a much better option with a spot of glue where they touch. After you place the scarf, hat, and buttons on you will have a wonderful snowman decoration.
