I have a friend that not only enjoys teapots, but also elephants. So when I found this lovely elephant teapot as a local thrift store I decided to add a little glitter with the Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss sealer/glue/finish.
The instructions for the Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss also states to leave the item to cure for 28 days before you wash the item. This is not an overnight project, give about a month before you put it into the dishwasher.
I chose Poly glitter for this project as craft glitter will melt and discolor in the heat of a dishwasher. The colors I chose were Pearlescent Stargazer Pink, Pearlescent White Lily Dream, Pearlescent Daffodil Yellow, Metallic Dusty Rose Sky, and Holographic Quasar Blue.
I started with a medium coat of the medium Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss.
Then I dipped and pressed the glitter into the wet gloss sections.
I also poured the glitter onto some of the sections.
After each part was dry, I put two separate coats of the Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss onto each section allowing each application to fully dry before applying the next coat.
The bottle gave instructions to place 2-3 overcoats over the applied material to fully seal and protect from flaking off in the dishwasher.
The teapot turned out great.
